History of Igarra Development Association (IDA)

Igarra, the administrative headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area in Edo State, Nigeria, is a historic town renowned for its rich cultural heritage, dramatic rocky landscapes, and industrious people.

The Igarra Development Association (IDA) was established as a non-governmental, non-partisan, and socio-cultural community organization. It was created out of the vital need to unify sons and daughters of Igarra both at home and in the diaspora to drive collective community progress.

Founding Principles & Growth

From its inception, IDA has served as the official mouthpiece and developmental engine of the town. The association works hand-in-hand with traditional leadership, youth groups, women associations, and municipal authorities to ensure peace, educational advancement, healthcare accessibility, and infrastructure growth.

Article 1: Name & Supremacy

The Association shall be known and addressed as "Igarra Development Association" (IDA). This Constitution shall be supreme and binding on all organs, branches, and members of the Association.

Article 2: Membership Eligibility

Membership is open to all indigenes of Igarra by birth or marriage, as well as honorary members accepted in accordance with the provisions outlined herein.

Article 3: Governance & Executive Officers

The Executive Council shall oversee the daily administration of the Association. Elections shall be conducted democratically every three (3) years as specified in Section 4.

Oversees university scholarships, skill acquisition programs, and school infrastructure support.

Coordinates water, road, electrification, and civil amenity projects across Igarra.

Safeguards hometown and coordinates local vigilance for community safety.

4. Finance & Audit Committee

Ensures strict financial accountability, budgeting, and fundraising transparency.
